Compact System for Gear Honing Machines
During the honing of gear components, extremely fine metal particles and tool wear are generated. These contaminants enter the honing oil and increasingly burden the entire process circuit.
To ensure consistently high machining quality and stable production, effective cleaning of the honing oil is essential. Especially in modern gear honing machines with high precision requirements, the quality of the process fluid plays a crucial role.
Problem
During the honing process, fine particles are continuously introduced into the honing oil. Without proper treatment, this can lead to various issues:
- Deterioration of surface quality of the workpieces
- Increased wear of honing tools
- Deposits in tanks and pipelines
- Reduced service life of the honing oil
- Increasing maintenance and disposal costs
Conventional filtration systems are often only partially effective for very fine particles or require high maintenance effort.
Solution
A compact treatment system with a centrifugal separator was implemented to clean the honing oil. The system is installed directly on the gear honing machine and operates continuously in bypass mode.
The contaminated oil is fed into the separator, where even the finest particles are reliably removed by high centrifugal forces. The separated solids are discharged as compact sludge, while the cleaned oil is returned to the machining process.
Thanks to its compact design, the system can be easily integrated into existing production lines and ensures continuous cleaning during operation.
Advantages of the Compact System
- Consistent quality of the honing oil
- Improved surface quality of the workpieces
- Extended service life of honing tools
- Reduced maintenance effort for machines and systems
- Lower disposal and operating costs
Continuous cleaning stabilizes the honing process and significantly improves the efficiency of gear machining.
