Function of the S-15 Separator
The S-15 series separator operates in a self-priming mode. Vertical vanes are located in the opening at the bottom of the rotor bowl. These vanes draw the fluid from the centrifuge inlet chamber, similar to a centrifugal pump, and accelerate it to the angular velocity of the bowl.
A stationary skimming tube extends through a concentric opening and removes the cleaned liquid. When the separator is stopped, the remaining process fluid drains downward from the bowl. As a result, the separated sludge has only a low residual moisture content and may, in some cases, be disposed of directly.
Due to the high acceleration of up to 1,950 g (or 2,400 g at 60 Hz), high separation efficiency and throughput rates are achieved. For example, at a flow rate of approx. 5 l/min, particles as small as 1 μm can be separated.
