Precision Machining of Optical Glass
During the machining of optical glass, extremely fine glass particles are generated in the grinding process. These particles enter the grinding water and lead to increasing contamination of the entire process circuit. To ensure consistently high machining quality and a trouble-free production process, effective cleaning of the grinding water is essential.
Challenges in Grinding Water Treatment
The glass particles generated during grinding are extremely fine and cannot be sufficiently removed by simple sedimentation processes or conventional filtration systems. A high particle concentration in the circuit often leads to problems such as:
- Deterioration of the surface quality of the machined glass
- Increased wear of tools and grinding wheels
- Deposits in machines and pipelines
- Reduced service life of the grinding water
To ensure stable process quality, the grinding water must be continuously cleaned of these particles.
Solution: Central Grinding Water Circulation System
For the treatment of grinding water, a central system with a centrifugal separator is used. The contaminated grinding water is continuously fed into the separator. Due to high centrifugal forces, even the smallest solid particles are efficiently separated from the liquid.
The separator reliably removes the glass particles from the process water. The separated solids are discharged as compact sludge, while the cleaned grinding water is returned to the production circuit.
Advantages of the Circulation System
The use of a central grinding water treatment system offers numerous advantages for the production process:
- Consistently high quality of the grinding water
- Improved machining quality of the glass
- Reduced tool wear
- Longer service life of machines and coolants
- Reduced maintenance and disposal costs
Continuous cleaning ensures that the grinding water remains clean over the long term and can be recirculated efficiently. This not only increases process reliability but also significantly reduces resource consumption.
